Draft pending legal review
MarriageOrNothing.com (“we”) processes personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and related regulations. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account data: email address, phone number, password (stored by our authentication provider as a secure hash), date of birth.
- Profile data: first name, gender, occupation, city and state, relationship status, whether you have children, marriage timeline and structured preferences.
- Video introduction: the recording you submit, its duration and review outcome.
- Identity verification (optional unless required for engagement): document type, the last four characters of the document number, and the document image you upload.
- Activity: reach-outs, engagements, messages, reports, blocks and notifications.
- Financial records: wallet deposits, engagement charges and refunds. Card details are handled by our payment provider (Paystack) and never stored by us.
- Consent records: which version of our policies you accepted and when.
Why we use it (purpose and lawful basis)
- To provide matchmaking — performance of our contract with you.
- To display your video introduction to other members — your explicit consent, which you can withdraw by deleting your video or account.
- To verify identity, keep members safe and prevent fraud — legitimate interests and, for identity documents, your consent.
- To keep financial records — legal obligation and contract.
What other members can see
Your video, first name, age (not your date of birth), city/state, occupation, marriage timeline, verification badges and structured compatibility attributes. You can hide whether you have children. Other members never see your email, phone number, exact date of birth, identity documents, wallet balance or transactions.
How we protect it
- Videos and identity documents are kept in private storage and accessed only through short-lived signed links.
- Database access is restricted by row-level security; administrative access is role-based and audited.
- Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by our infrastructure providers.
We cannot technically prevent another person from screen-recording or photographing a video they are shown. Please only share what you are comfortable with.
Retention
- Identity document images are deleted after review; the verification outcome is kept while your account is active.
- Rejected and replaced videos are deleted from storage.
- When your account is deleted we remove your profile, videos, documents and preferences. Financial ledger entries are kept, without your contact details, for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
You may access, correct, export or delete your data, withdraw consent, and object to processing. Use Settings → Download my data and Settings → Delete account, or contact us. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Breaches
If a personal data breach occurs we will assess it promptly, notify the Nigeria Data Protection Commission within the required timeframe where applicable, and inform affected members without undue delay where there is a high risk to them.
Processors
Supabase (database, authentication and storage), Paystack (payments), our SMS and email delivery providers, and our hosting provider. They process data only on our instructions.
